EEE PC News - whole-day battery and big hard disk

In the next few months, Asustek is going to introduce the so called "whole-day" battery for the EEE PCs. Furthermore, it will be possible to equip the EEE PC with bigger hard disks. (source)

EEE PC Competition : Lenovo IdeaPad S9 and S10 mini laptops

In October Lenovo is going to bring to the market two cheap ultra portable laptops (netbooks) , the IdeaPad S9 (8.9-inch display) and IdeaPad S10 (10.2 inch-display).
Bluetooth is unfortunately only an optional however a good news is the availability of an expressCard expansion slot and a 160GB hard disk model however the entry level model will have only a 4GB flash memory. The IdeaPad S9 wil be priced at a very competitive 321 Euro and the IdeaPad S10 starts at 357 Euros.
Lenovo didn't disclose informations on battery.

Dual Core Atom CPU for EEE PC or MSI Wind Netbooks?

Intel announced the Atom 330, a dual core CPU clocked at 1,83 GHz dedicated to nettops (low cost desktop pcs) not to be confused with netbooks (such as EEE PC or MSI Wind).
In any case it won't last long until we'll see dual core Atom for MSI Wind of EEE PC.

Atom vs Celeron M 353 vs VIA C7 vs Core Duo Performance : EEE PC vs MSI Wind vs ...

UPDATE:

An important german magazine (c't) published a performance comparison of netbook CPUs with a Core Duo 1,6 GHz (T2060). The only clear bottom line is that the VIA C7-M has the worst performance, in all tests.
The Atom CPU is as quick as the Core Duo 1,6 GHz for HDTV 720p video decoding while the Atom is quicker for Video-DVD decoding.
Powerpoint: about the same performance for Atom and Celeron while the Core Duo is much quicker.
Complex Word document: the Celeron is as quick as the Core Duo, the Atom is a bit slower.
MP3 decoding with VLC: the Atom CPU is by far the quickest (2 sec), Celeron 5 sec and Core Duo 20 sec.
MP3 decoding with Windows Media Player 9: the Celeron is the quickest (7 sec), Core Duo and Atom need 20 sec.
Trackmania (game) : the Atom is the slowest with 9 fps , Celeron 13 fps and Core Duo 20 fps.
Quake III: not possible with Atom since the a driver was missing, the Celeron reached the same performance level of the Core Duo (54-58 fps) while the VIA C7 reached 25 fps.

MSI Wind is the Best Netbook to Buy

MSI Wind U100 is the clear winner of the netbook race: the MSI Wind U100 has the best mix of performance and features at a very competitive price: fairly big display (10-inch) and keys, hard disk, a powerful CPU, Bluetooth and Windows XP. Only the battery could last a bit more.
